Today, the use of Information and Communication Technologies is increasingly present in our daily life; in the way we communicate, get information, learn and create. We have adopted new habits and customs, incorporating them in the daily routines to relate with one another, either in a real or virtual way. This provides significant information and communication advantages and possibilities, new opportunities for the inclusion and ultimately for the quality of life. On the contrary, it also entails risks and dangers: the digital divide, privacy, safety, exclusion, etc.
The elderly are an especially significant group in today’s society, with their characteristics, risks and of course, their potentialities. It is the responsibility of all of us to promote a practical and smart use of the new technologies. This use must be encouraged through different multidisciplinary actions and in very different fields of activity: education, research, projects, adapted devices, politics, etc. All this must be done so the elderly become part of the knowledge and information society.
Whether in the previous edition of the conference the slogan was “no one behind” as a reference to the politics of the European Union to promote an inclusive society for all ages, in the present conference we propose the slogan “Technology on the go”. We understand that devices and also the Internet are becoming more and more personal, individual and portable, resulting in technology being more social, community-oriented and global.
